Jean Sala Smith, MSN CNM - Owner, Midwife
Jean is a board-certified nurse-midwife through the American College of Nurse Midwives. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (1983) and a Master of Science Degree (1988) from the University of Texas at Houston. After practicing nursing for over 11 years in labor and delivery, newborn nursery and high-risk obstetrics, Jean followed her calling to empower women through the birth process and earned her certificate in Nurse-Midwifery through Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1994. She is a certified a Neonatal Resuscitation Instructor from the American Academy of Pediatrics and The American Heart Association. Jean is also a Birthing From Within childbirth preparation instructor as well as a basic CPR instructor. Her 30 plus years of experience include hospital, birth center and homebirths. She has one son who she gave birth to in a military hospital in 1971. Back then, birth was something done to a woman. Birth was not seen as something a woman participated in. There was little support from the sparse personnel, a spinal block was done for the birth because that is just what you did. An episiotomy was cut and she was separated from her son for 6 hours because of hospital policy and no encouragement for breastfeeding. All those personal experiences helped her to create the environment of loving patience, education and support found at Inanna. Jean is married to the love of her life Paul. She is Christian and welcomes all faiths and families to Inanna.
Elaine Candeloro, DNP, CNM, APRN - Midwife
Elaine is a Certified Nurse Midwife through the American College of Nurse Midwives. She earned a Bachelor’s in Science of Nursing from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL and her Master’s in Science of Nursing from Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, KY. She is currently studying for a doctoral degree in Nursing Practice, which will help her to provide care based upon the latest research and evidence.
After having her first child Elaine knew that she wanted to provide the same care given by her midwife. As a nurse she taught infant care, pregnancy, and lactation classes in Italy from 2006-2009. She was a labor and delivery nurse and nurtured adolescent, childbearing, and post-menopausal women in Oklahoma from 2010-2016.
Elaine lives with her husband Anthony and her seven children. She hopes that her professional education and experience, as well as her personal experiences with her children, will serve to provide a foundation in giving excellent care to the Inanna families.
